Yoga Rio Rancho
hi i'm shira and i have a very, very specialguest today. for mother's day, i've invited my mother to come and join me for some teawith shira and to talk about her beginning knitting adventures. when did you, i knowthat you crocheted at one point when you were younger. -i learned in camp. -you learnedin camp. okay and how old were you? -oh (laughs) i was probably about, you know, ten? -ten?-seven? ten? they sent me away early (laugh)
Yoga Rio Rancho, -what was the next, like, crafting venture?-nothing. somehow i never really got into it. -got into it. until? -until you told meyou teach. -she picked it up pretty well. and pretty quickly. and then she actuallyrecently, can i say?she recently had a hip replacement. while she was in recovery, evenwhen i went to visit her in the hospital,
she was knitting and we would knit in thehospital together. and so she's a beginner knitter. she's still working on her firstproject and that's totally okay. -the project looks good on first blush. (laugh) -okay i'minto my second ball. the problem is that i started out with, how many stitches? -i thinkyou probably started out with 25. -i now have 43. (laugh) -okay, see, and what i alwayslike to say about beginners is they're so advanced they don't even know it. -is 45 stitchesa lot of stitches? -well, i mean, when you started out with 25, yes! so, first off, thisis pretty good! this is pretty good. we did a bit of a twisting our stitches thing butthen my mom really liked that and she wanted to continue with that. -forget about me! wheni showed it to daddy he thought that was a
nice little twist! so i kept it in. -thisis a really good beginner yarn. this is wool-ease chunky. always like for beginners, i alwayssuggest a lighter color because you want to see your stitches and you want to be ableto read them but my mom, she learned. i mean, she's got a stockinette going here. and itold her that stockinette curls so she created a little boarder. very proud of you. -andevery so often i made a mistake. i purled where i should've done the other so i madea nice design in it. -nice little design element! -right. i just thought it would be reallycool for the president of lion brand yarn to wear my first project. (laugh) but i thinki have the ability to do this. at some point. -you do have the ability! you have such theability! and i always say to beginners, one
of my things is, loose as a goose. you wantto keep your stitches really loose because as a beginner at anything, you're going toalways be just a little be more, just tighter! i'm really proud of you, mom! -i am too! ilike it. now when people say, we're introduced, and daddy says that he's the head of the,you know, and they say, "do you knit?" and i can say, "yeah! i just began!" i don't looklike a total fool after 45 years! (laugh) but i'm very proud of you. i'm really veryproud of you. -oh, mom! -i really am! and that you teach. and you're a good teacher!i think that you're a good teacher because you had good teachers and it was at timeshard for you to learn things so you understand when other people don't get it. -it was sohard! struggle! -and that they learn different,
different people learn differently and differentways. -yeah! the other part of little series here is tea. -well, i have to share with youthat in my family, tea was very important. -i remember. -my parents always drank tea.-always. -so, it wasn't so much the tea that was important.but the important part of itwas what it was served in. and a tea glass, and they were convinced, my parents wouldnever drink tea in a cup! and they were convinced that tea, and it must be very hot, boiling, tasted different and better in a glass. and this glass actually belonged to your grandparents.-aw! -so i'm giving it to you. -i'm going to cry! -you see why i wanted it! and i'mgiving it to you so when you do your teas with shira, you actually have something thatbelongs. -aw this is so sweet! thanks mom!
i really do remember. my make up! (laugh)i really do remember my grandfather always, always drinking tea. -he had a lot of teaglasses because my father was afraid that it would go out of style. -right. -so wheneverhe could, he bought these tea glasses and so now you have one. -oh i love it! thankyou so much, mom! -you're welcome! so i thought that this would be- -i'm caught off guard!this is a mother's day episode not a daughter's day episode! -so i wanted you to have that.so it was from my mother to me and me to you. and i thought it was very appropriate. -ilove you so much, mommy! -love you, too, baby! -mom, thank you so much for coming! -my pleasure!-you're a really pretty guest. (laugh) bye everybody! -oops! -oh, thanks! (laugh)
