raja yoga is the development and stabilizationof the mind to see reality clearly and to achieve awakening, and then enlightenment.its practices are meditation and contemplation, and also the physical asanas in order to prepareyour body to sit in meditation and be able to focus. karma yoga focuses on action, particularlyselfless action. it’s called karma yoga because it comes from the idea of karma, whereyou carry all your positive and negative actions from your past lives, through this life andyour next life and when you have sort of balanced and repaid all your karma, you achieve liberation. jnana yoga focuses on knowledge and understandingthe self and your body and soul. it is through
jnana yoga that you become aware of the egoand when you can separate yourself from your physical experience of living in this body,and separate yourself from the ego, you are on your way to liberation. bhakti yoga is the path of cultivating loveand devotion in your heart. this is toward god or whatever idea of god makes sense toyou, a spiritual energy or force that you believe is out there somewhere, bringing itinto your heart. if you don’t believe in anything out there, i think it’s more importantto know that there’s something in here. i think it’s fine for spirituality to bejust recognizing that energy, that special something within you, because the last thinggod is, is something external.
mantra yoga is a practice of chanting mantras,or sanskrit words or phrases, which are thought to vibrate in a special way with the universe.all sound is vibration. when you speak, your vocal chords vibrate and create sound. sowhen you chant mantras, the sound that you create is thought to vibrate in a specialfrequency or a type of vibration that is in line with the vibration of the universe. sochanting mantras is a way of feeling connected with the universe and ultimately understandingthat there's no difference between you and the universe. finally, hatha yoga, which we all know andlove, is the physical practice of strengthening, balancing, cleansing, and freeing the energyof the body. it includes asanas and mudras,
the physical postures and gestures that youdo in your yoga class, but it’s also much more. it also includes pranayama, breathingtechniques that free your prana or energy to flow through your body, meditation, andcleansing techniques which massage and clean out your organs. so it's literally cleaningout your body and figuratively clarifying your consciousness and awareness. to sum up, the purpose of yoga is to understandand stabilize your mind through 6 practices: mental, philanthropic, academic, spiritual,verbal, and physical. you can pursue your path to liberation through one or a combinationor all of these yogas. so, let me know in the comments, which yogas appeal
