14 year olds in yoga pants
'sup you beautiful bastards! i hope you're having a fantastic monday. welcome back to the philip defranco show, and a quick note before we get started, i saw a bunch of your messages and concerns late last night, no there were no weekend videos your sub box wasn't broken. no nothing is wrong, my son was sick, my wife was semi-sick, so i just focused on family rather than making weekend videos.
14 year olds in yoga pants, i should have given you a head's up, but that just wasn't the first thing that popped into my mind. so just wanted to let you know. that said, let's jump into the first story of the day. and the first thing we're going to talk about today; the most requested story of the day, more youtube copyright abuse.
also, i'm going to say in advance; yes, i know a ton of you hate when i talk about fouseytube i also do not like talking about fouseytube fousey, aka yousef, a huge, giant youtuber on the platform. and he doesn't really need an introduction. hell, about 100,000 of you subscribed to me after he made that video where he said a bunch of stuff about me that turned out, "huh, not true!" and they liked the way i deflected his false claims, and they liked the rest of the show, and they subscribed. so, welcome. yeah, you know who he is. well this is the most requested story today because he's been in the news for something that's gone on for the past month i thought it was gonna go away; he was just going to leave it alone,
but unfortunately, that's not the case. about a month ago, he decided to put a copyright claim on a video called: fouseytube: an alternate reality. it's a 45 minute video from a creator by the name of colossal is crazy. and in the 45 minutes, he uses the footage of fouseytube as evidence against fouseytube. it showcases yousef's hypocrisy, exploitation, fake social experiments, that are, some of them are just as bad as the joeysalads thing. even just in that they portrayed a false narrative. so yousef sees this video, and he puts a copyright strike against the video. so colossal gets the email that fouseytube entertainment has put a copyright strike against the video,
colossal disputes it. fouseytube entertainment still believes it violates copyright, so colossal has to submit a counter notification. and in it, he says, and that set into motion, a waiting period, where fouseytube entertainment could either back down, or they could still stand by the claim and strike the video down. in what seems to be a very odd move, fouseytube entertainment waited til the last day of the waiting period to strike down that video. now some people have said that this was just fouseytube just stretching this out making it more painful for colossal.
others have said that he waited til the last day so that he could take in all the ad revenue on that video, before striking it down. i reached out to yousef for comment, and he said that he, "did not want to make a public comment on this." and that's the thing here, i try to always give everyone a chance to defend themselves, or their actions. so that said, here's where i personally need to point some things out. the first is that, unlike in the situation where, in the past, either fouseytube, or roman atwood struck down my video. unlike that situation, where people pointed to their mcn, studio 71, as the reason my video was taken down, fouseytube entertainment, is fouseytube. so it's either yousef, or someone yousef told to take down the video, taking the video down, and going along these steps. two, i personally have issue with this copyright claim, because it seems like abuse of the copyright system
to take down a video that you don't like what it says about you. to me: this copyright claim is thinly veiled censorship under a different name. people have made videos saying i'm a disgusting cunt, i'm the worst thing that has ever happened to youtube. they use huge portions of my clips, and they go at me. i'm not going to take those videos down, that would be copyright abuse. if someone just straight up steals your video, yeah then, go for it, obviously. and finally, by fousey doing this, all he has done is guaranteed that more people are going to see this video that is critical on him. it's the streisand effect; the beyoncã© effect. when people find out that you do not want them to see something, they want to see it that much more.
and it will, most likely, be seen by more people. which is why, fousey, if you think that video is 100% a copyright abuse, feel free to try and copyright claim this video on someone you know, who has as much money as you and who has probably more lawyers. i don't want to have you or your audience as my enemy, and i know that there are going to be a bunch of dislikes that swarm in from people that are very loyal. but when i see something that i believe is messed up, i gotta call it out. and to that point, to anyone that wants to see the video that has been removed: i'm going to provide mirror links down below.
if those also start getting hit, we'll link to something off of youtube. but that's that. nation: i'd love to know your opinion on this story. let me know what you think, and why in the comments down below. and from there, i wanna share some stuff i love today in "today in awesome" brought to you by the "have a great fucking day shirt". the pocket tee that says, "hey, the world is stupid, something awful will always be happening but let's try and have a great fucking day." and before you ask; yes we have it in the censored, and uncensored versions. and those will be available for the next 48 hours so grab them while you can.
and the first bit of awesome, is self-promo awesome i posted a brand new docu-vlog over at youtube.com/phillyd today's episode was behind the scenes at the youtube space you know, uh, threatening children with violence with markiplier, starting the drama with swoozie. it was a good one, if you haven't seen it yet, check it out, if you haven't subscribed, go do that. then i wanted to share some awesome from chris capel. he put out a video called "working with jigsaw". then, this is like three days old, but whole else is pumped that donald glover
is going to be young lando calrissian one: fantastic casting. two: as a donald glover fan, this guy has the most awesome career ever. i don't know if i've ever been so proud of a guy i've never met in my life. then: apple fanboys rejoice, it looks like on thursday, apple is going to announce the brand new macbook pro and maybe some other things. then, we've talked about it on the show, but i had to share jon oliver talking about the problem with opioids. it's a huge problem and its nice to see someone with his size, and his reach talk about something like that. then, as a friendly reminder, i mentioned that it was going to come out
black mirror season 3 is currently out on netflix. if you are a fan of the series: watch it! if you've never seen the series before i recommend you go through it, but know that season 3 is, by far, the best season released so far. in previous seasons there were good episodes, and then some that just fell short. this season: they are just all good and some are amazing. i cannot recommend it enough. and remember, if you wanna see the full versions of everything i shared, the secret link of the day, anything at all, links, as always, are in the description down below. and then i wanna talk about our douchebags of the day. there's more than one today.
police in new york have arrested two teenage girls for what they did to a 62 year old man in this video. *inaudible garbage people talking* they just straight up attacked this old guy. on his own property. according to police, the man said that he went outside, he politely asked them to please get off of his lawn, and then that video happened. it's been seen now by millions of people. police have said they've arrested two of the girls, one 14, one 15. they are facing 3rd degree assault charges. and, what i will say, a silver lining to this situation, the mother of one of the girls said that she wants to apologize to the man her daughter attacked, adding that there are so many parents out there, and people are going to make this a race thing,
but there are parents of all colors that they would see their child do something so very obviously in the wrong, and they would defend their kid, or try to justify their actions. what you have here is a parent going my kid did something horrible, and she 100% needs to be held responsible otherwise she may grow into a horrible adult. and that's the only good thing i could take from this video, because looking at it, these kids are scum. who's teaming up and trying to beat down on an old guy who needs a cane to walk? spoiler alert: scum. then in celebrity news, we had justin bieber back in the news because apparently justin bieber yelled at his fans. justin bieber flips!
let's see it. justin: the screaming is just so obnoxious, and if we could just scream after the song, enjoy the song, scream, it was awesome, it was fun, and then take a chill pill for a second and just listen to me speak whoa! i mean that seemed completely reasonable. then apparently the crowd kept screaming when he was trying to talk, and he eventually did this: so he dropped the mic, walked off stage, he ended up coming back several minutes later, and tried to explain himself further. then, because it seemed that he just realized that he wasn't getting anywhere, he was like "we're just gonna sing". and then he did.
and here's the thing, i've talked about bieber a ton in the past. especially years ago when the show was more celeb focused. he's done a lot of douchey things. this doesn't seem douchey to me. this seemed like a guy who has realized who a lot of his base audience is, and him not liking that. him wanting to have a moment where he talked to his fans about something personal, or something that he found important, and while he was making eye contact, people were just like, "i love you!!!!" and it seemed like he was having a moment like, "how much could you actually like me or care about what i'm saying if you're just screaming at me while i'm talking." and that's it. i don't see a guy who flipped out, or freaked out.
i see a guy who tried to make a reasonable request, got really frustrated, came to the realization that you know what? if a bunch of people are going to essentially shout "dance monkey dance." and that's all they want? lemme get paid. and the thing is: i actually respect this moment from bieber. i understand that it's impossible to relate to some kid that's lived a top tier life. in the past decade we've seen this kid from that stupid bowl cut, all the way til now. the entire time making money. if he wants an experience, he gets it. if he wants someone, he gets them and it's easy to go, "shut up, don't complain, you've got everything i would ever want."
but i respect this moment because it's real. it's a guy that lives an unrelateable life, if he ever complains about anything, no one is going to take it seriously. and in a moment where he finally broke down, and he tried to connect to the audience, he tried to explain himself, he got booed. for me, i think that's an eye opening moment for anyone that's really paying attention. the connection between someone like justin bieber and his fans. so many of these "connections" that people have, it's so empty. and then let's talk about the yoga pants parade. sounds like my kind of parade.
i mean, as a spectator, but still, i dig it. and for those of you that are wondering, "why the hell was there a yoga pants parade? why was that necessary?" well it appears that in east bay, rhode island, there was a letter to the editor just ranting on yoga pants. it was written by a man by the name of alan sorrentino. and he uh.. he's not a fan to say the least. i'm gonna read the letter for you. it's really long, so i'm going to do it in an unnecessary accent to make it fun for me. now, it should be noted that the author of this has received death threats. that's not a cool way to respond to something you don't like. right?
and that's why i think this yoga pants parade is a fantastic thing. it's: "you say what you say, i'm just going to embrace being me." and so on sunday, around 300 women went on a parade through barrington wearing yoga pants. holding signs that say "we wear what we want." "love yourself." okay, so let me jump into this, the first thing, alan, are you watching? alan, are you watching right now? alan, one, do you realize how weird it is to say that you do not prefer a certain kind of clothing on a woman that is 20 or older because that is you saying you prefer a certain kind of clothing on 19 year olds and younger? and how young you ask? well you said "children" "it's adorable on children and women who are blessed with youth."
i'm just going to throw it out there; if someone said to me "nature's blessing of youth" my mind goes to "there may be a person locked in that person's basement." who talks like that? number 2: wearing leggings is no where near the same thing as wearing a speedo. but then you get into weird debate territory, because a speedo would technically be a bathing suit, what the difference between underwear and a bathing suit for a woman? why is it normal for a woman to wear a two piece bathing suit, but if you caught someone in her underwear, oh no, that's risque? that's a little more grey area, but that's not what we're talking about here. and the third and final thing i wanna talk about is,
essentially what you are doing is just body shaming older women. and not just older women, i mean, you allude to the fact... women that just have some weight on them. and here's what i'll say: i have a love hate relationship when it comes to body positivity. in no way do i believe, let's call this hypothetical woman "mary" should have to wear or not wear what you want. i don't like people being made fun of for their weight, being harrassed about it, i want people to just be comfortable being themselves. that said, i think body positivity is fantastic in that "you are you". you are the end all be all of "i feel comfortable in me". but i also do believe that there is a point where the body positivity trend promotes something that is very unhealthy.
if you weigh 400 pounds, and you want to wear a crop top, blessings to you. if that makes you feel confident, makes you feel beautiful, or you just wanted to wear it 'cause it's tuesday. great, but i won't be waving pom poms around myself, and cheering you on because, at a certain point, i believe it does promote an unhealthy lifestyle. like, right now, i'm at an unhealthy weight, i'm 6'0" and i weigh 222 pounds. i feel comfortable in my body. if someone tells me what to wear or what not to wear based on my weight, they can go fuck themselves. but i know i need to take care of myself. and actually this story is fantastic because i think it shows what's so great when people aren't censored or shut down. guy says something that some people agree with and a bunch of other people disagree with so those people chime up, they make a statement.
and based off all that we got to have a conversation. yeah, i think that's where i'm going to end this one. and remember: if you like this video, you like what i do on this channel, hit that like button. if you're new here, hit that subscribe button. also remember, if you want to grab a pocket tee, you've got two days to grab one. but that said, of course, as always, my name's philip defranco. you've just been phil'ed in, i love yo' faces, and i'll see you tomorrow.
