two hearts yoga san antonio
skeet: good evening, suite world and welcome to "the starters" nba all-star special live from new york city. mastectomy is tas melas.
two hearts yoga san antonio , -- sitting next to me as tas melas. the international man of mystery.
leigh: i am disappointed in your wardrobes. tas: i am just as disappointed in your wardrobe. skeet: good stuff. leigh: i don't think that either of you guys could pull it off of. skeet: i like that white
undershirt. we will be joined by couple of special guests. that is the tease. we will have the rematch between you dog and tocco trey kerby in the dunk contest. -- e-dog and taco trey kerby in we will start with the annual
sure c showcase. we are hitting the 10 first and second year players from the united states against the 10 first and second year players from around the world. the have been a lot of changes with these rosters. we are pretty sure we got it
right. the u.s. team looks very solid. i'm excited for this. sometimes this can be some of the most eventful of vents. >> the most competitive game of the weekend. skeet: there is a look at the world team roster.
do you think having this format makes it a more competitive game? tas: i think it is the most competitive game but you have the usa across the chest which automatically triggers the patriotism. even for all of these world guys
, dante exum. that is his beautiful jersey. they are representing their countries. it is a bit more important for them. trey: this is becoming a global game. we have the international
players. they are around and they will stay for long long time. skeet: you say this competitive but it is sort of like batting practice where you just want to see a whole bunch of home runs. in this game, you want to see a bunch of alley-oops.
you will get that for three and a half quarters. leigh: some of the guys have not given their best the season. they want to show what they can do to their fans around the world. i think it will be a fun game. tas: in australia, people will
stay up. leigh: they will be. it is 11 in the morning on saturday morning. tas: there are two greeks in this game. they will be up chanting. skeet: it is no surprise that you are taking the greek freak
as you are rising and vp? tas: why not. greece needs this for the economy. skeet: you chimed in with your picks. three of us, including the fans like the greek freak. he has become the darling of
all-star weekend. week talk about how talented he is on the court, you could fill up a box score. he will do a thing or two that will wow the crowd. this will increase the chances of the m.v.p.. tas: you know how they broke
their huddles in their practice? 1, 2, 3, world. it does not get any bigger than that. skeet: plumlee. trey: this is a strategy picked. you look at the last two guys, they were near the rim, picking up all of the missed shots.
plumlee could get a ton of offensive rebounds and put backs. a 20-20 game would not surprise me. plus, he is playing at home in the barclays center. skeet: the fans voted the greek freak.
the second most was andrew wiggins. leigh: he has been playing well lately. he can show that he is one of the best players in this game. we want to see this guy step out and get some highflying dunks. he can fill the floor at both
ends. in the past couple of years, big man do get a lot of rebounds. i think andrew wiggins will get a ton of it. skeet: let's get to the skills challenge. one of the events on saturday night.
we lost john wall, jimmy butler. a solid eight man lineup. i like even shroder. the big difference is the bracket, first off. they are going head-to-head instead of going against the clock. this is our own march madness.
instead of finishing with the dunk or a layup, you have to hit a three. they are going at the same time on both sides of the floor and they will be coming, they will be sprinting back and have to finish with the three. it will either be hilarious or
it will be a lot more entertaining. tas: the fact they're going against another guy on the floor and they see another and other guy rather than a clock, it is just extinction will. that is who they are, they are the most competitive people in
the world. you definitely have someone to beat. skeet: when you try typical winner it you either go, who is the fastest, now, who is the best three-point shooter? who is going to wanted more than anyone else?
tas: you guys took the little guys. i took kyle lowry because this is a loan event for most guys. kyle lowry is a busy man. he is occupied. jimmy fallon, obviously the all-star game. i think he will be free and easy
. he competed in each event. this is going to be his break. >> a fascinating concept. tas: damien won it last year along with trey burke. skeet: you want jeff teague any reason in particular? leigh: i think he is underrated.
i think he will go out there and be quick. he is great at finishing with a dunk or layup. i think he will be the one that surprises you. tas: who was not going to hit the side of the cylinder? skeet: it is a tough one.
jump on twitter for all of your predictions. lots more to come on "the starters" nba all-star special. he will get into the three-point contest, a lot of people think it is the best of all-time. skeet: welcome back to "the starters" live in nyc.
i said we will have some special guests, we are joined by 12 time all-star, hall of famer. >> thanks for having me. skeet: you have been to a lot of these. you have played in a lot of games. >> i have played and i have been
around. i am excited to be a part of the i think it is something that the players should definitely appreciate because once you are gone, you cannot enjoy it no more. >> talk to us if you remember, way back, 1980, you were the
all-star m.v.p.. what you remember from that >> the guys were given me the ball. i was hot. i was playing with bird and tiny archibald. those guys played the game like it should be played.
it was fun, giving me an opportunity to win the m.v.p.. skeet: i was wonder about that. in the locker room in the game, is there a little talk, let's try to get so-and-so the m.v.p. >> really not like that. it is really how the game is playing out on the floor.
you see a guy who was hot, who is rolling. the guys in my era would get you the ball. skeet: what about 1997? we got a special will be countdown our top 20 moments and one of those is the 97 all-star game when the nba celebrated the
50th greatest players of all time. what do you remember from this halftime ceremony or the entire weekend? >> it was tremendous. i was around 50 of the greatest. i was around wilt chamberlain. it was scary good.
these are guys that i grew up and admired to be recognized as one of them, it was something special. it was a beautiful weekend. trey: do you still have the jacket? >> i cannot fit into it. skeet: recently, we saw klay
thompson. klay thompson dropped 37 in the corner last month. in a lighthearted interview with bleacher report a radio howard beck, you talk about how you at a 33 which was the record in one quarter -- >> is still is the record.
i saw clay early today. he talked about going to the three-point line. that is how humble he was. obviously in the nba, he got the record. i have no problem with it. i was just really making light of it but in reality it is
reality. so, there is nothing wrong with speaking reality. skeet: factor that game when you one m.v.p., they actually had the three-point line. do you remember the only guy to hit it? >> was it me?
skeet: it was larry bird. >> larry bird can shoot from anywhere. skeet: a lot of people say this is the best looking field of all-time. wes matthews, kyrie irving. we have the splash brothers, korver, then belinelli.
that is impressive. >> it is. it will be fun. anyone of these guys can win it. if you ask who is my favorite, obviously i will say belinelli. also, he is a champ until somebody beats him. anyone of those guys could get
hot and shoot a big number. i think this will be exciting for us as basketball fans just to get ready to see this competition. skeet: a lot of nba fans wonder if the guy is a spot up shooter, off the dribble shooter. do you buy that for all these
guys all lights out? >> all of them are good shooters. steph is the best on the dribble. all of them can shoot the three standing still. skeet: you are backing belinelli.
let's get to our predictions. we asked the fans to chime in as well. we disagree as well. some of them we agree on. i am saying klay thompson. the fans say kyle korver. and the iceman says belinelli. >> not even on the list.
korver can shoot it, too. tas: i look at him say, will he loses contest four times? >> he will not be a serious. tas: he is serious with this stuff. >> well, because he has lost and competed for bank times. he is such an entertaining guy.
i will turn the tv on for him because he will entertain me. skeet: another guy that things he can knock down the three is sitting beside you in this crazy shirt. last year, leigh thought he could do the contest and put up a respectable 10, 12.
i will let you tell the iceman how you did. leigh: i scored six points. but, we did not have the moneyball. skeet: oh, that was the problem. leigh: we could not get onto the actual nba court last year. george: you have a nice little
jumper. trey: those balls might have been smaller. leigh: i did yoga, pilates, and ballet training to try to strengthen my core. skeet: what is that? leigh: you need that elevation when you shoot.
i promised i was going to do better this season. if you want to come with me, let me know. skeet: take a wild guess how many threes do you think he hits? george: eight. i think you did better.
trey: i think he did double digits. skeet: i will go 10. leigh: i said i would hit 11. skeet: let's roll it. it was yesterday. this leigh: this was yesterday. skeet: so, do you like that shot?
george: that is a nice little shot. skeet: why number 87? leigh: my favorite game of all time was 1987 all-star game. that was the one where tom chambers was m.v.p. tas: we don't care about that. we care about your shooting.
skeet: where would you have the moneyball rat? leigh: i had it on the left side. trey: the legs were starting to go. skeet: that's all right. tas: are you going to get the men?
-- them in? skeet: that's a respectable score. it is all because of that. george, thank you so much. george: a pleasure, thank you for having me. skeet: lots more to come on the show.
we have more special guests, more predictions. and we will get to the taco versus e-dogg dunk contest. diehards like us know you as the greatest celebrity game player of all-time. a lot of the fans watching as thank you for joining us.
>> thank you for having me. skeet: four times you have played in the celebrity game. >> 4-0. trey: they keep giving the m.v.p. to other people. you are the real m.v.p.. skeet: you must love playing in the game.
>> this is a total break from reality, have some funds. i appreciate the opportunity. trey: a lot of fancy passes. where does that come from? >> when you are a small as i am, you have to move around a lot. it actually helps us win. tas: you had the all-time
celebrity game high with 20 points. you did a lot of passing. the fourth year you said, i am getting the m.v.p. skeet: because you played in the game a lot, and because you are secretary of education, you are used to to giving out grades.
i will give you some teammates or opponents and you can sort of grade their game and make additional comments. after the great footage here. trey: look at that speed. skeet: first of all, mike rappaport. give him a grade in terms of his
basketball skills. >> he works hard at it and he really enjoys the game. skeet: snap, that means you suck. >> he has a lot of fun out there. skeet: the next one, an actual nba player.
>> he is actually an area. he has done amazing stuff in this country. i met huge fan of him. tas: did you understand anything he said? >> i did. he said, don't shoot, i didn't shoot.
skeet: the next one, snoop dogg. >> he was taller than i thought. he is super skinny. skeet: what is that, 6'4"? >> a heck of a rapper. skeet: this one, justin bieber. >> no comment. skeet: we asked you so we could play the famous justin bieber
clip. leigh: he did not do this to you on the court, did he? >> no. tas: sorry about this. >> i don't know where he is going. tas: he is going nowhere. skeet: when will president obama
get into it? >> i try to recruit him, probably post-presidency. he still loves to play, a huge competitor. skeet: what is up with the pants? he is always playing in pants. leigh: he is a chicago guy, you
would think that jordan would hook them up. >> he is a good player, he plays really hard, he plays defense, moves the ball. and when he plays come he plays to win. he is not there to get a workout.
this is one of the few places where he can be a regular person. leigh: if he is coming down on the break, do you foul him or do you let him go for the layup? >> i jump on the shot. that is the one place where he can be real.
if you were to back off, that is not an all what he would want. skeet: let's get to the dunk contest. we will hear your addictions. before bang guys, everybody knows this. all for bang are in the rising stars.
-- all four are in the rising do you have one that you are leaning? >> no inside information. normally chicago guys. i have to go for victor. he is at the map this kid. he is my new home court favorite.
tas: if he wins, he is donating all of his money to cancer research. >> he is a really good guy. watch what he does around kids. he has some real character. based on his off the court stuff, he has the talent. skeet: a lot of people are
backing zach lavine. i am sure you have seen some of the clips. he is got that were he jumps in the air and he has that floating aspect to him. it doesn't look human. a lot of us backing him and i know the fans did as well.
tas: his teammate said that he is practicing new generation and crazy stuff. >> we will see. skeet: you are going with oladipo. leigh: living is the favored, there is no pressure on oladipo. we have seen him throw three
60's in games. if everybody is picking zach lavine, it is easy for victor oladipo to slip in there and perform really well. zach lavine, what if he doesn't live up to expectations? skeet: we have gone back to the more classic, at least, in terms
of judging this. there are no teams, no fan votes. tas: and only three attempts per dunk. trey: keep it moving. skeet: there it is, that is what we are back in. you are saying oladipo as well.
quek chicago is the place to be -- >> chicago is the place to be. tas: a through z. skeet: that will be a great dunk when we come back, arnie will help us to judge this. can't wait. >> put me on the spot here.
>> welcome back to "the starters." live in new york city. have another guest here. 3-d joining us. we are playing musical chairs. just missed it. how are you enjoying it? >> all-star weekend never gets
old. you had george, the iceman earlier. never gets old. >> we wanted to have you on because we are going to have to -- probably be worse dunk contest of all-time, but we wanted your opinion --
>> i've never done that. >> 3-d, that does not matter at all. >> so this is a true nerf hoop [laughter] >> no, no. we have a controversial winter. lee ended up getting the win. trey was very upset and we
decided we have to do a rematch. let's get to the tale of the tape. let's let everyone know what is happening here. leigh with the age advantage. >> i like the 230-ish. >> i mean, i ate a lot this
week. i can't guarantee it. >> i like that leigh had to add 3/4 inches. >> you name a dunk and i can do >> we want everyone watching it home to tweet along. #treydunk if you think trey will win.
we are a habit. >> they know. they know. trey, i believe you have the first dunk. walk us through it. >> this is the westbrook dunk. the 360 to the one side of the hoop to the other.
look at this. >> nice elevation, i have to give him that. >> the pose. man. >> the lake flair is beautiful. >> everything looks good and slow mo -- in slow-mo. >> i'm going high.
>> i'm happy with 33. >> nine? are you sure? >> i am a showman. >> kicked the legs up a little bit. >> lee, you are wearing a crazy first dunk for e-dog. >> i was trying to add a little
bit of creativity. i'm over the backboard, off the bounce. >> it's a frunk! >> i nearly took out the camera guy is all. you have to get the timing right as well. look at how far back i am.
>> dwight howard, eat your heart out. >> nice. >> he loved it. >> i will say this. this is already better than last year. >> i don't like your number of 87.
i think that docks a few points. >> what about traditions? >> arnie with another nine. >> let's keep it going. we probably have 100 dunks between these two. here we go. take the window. >> for distance.
a good two feet away. >> not from the free-throw line, the toe line. >>uh=oh. >> you're going to tire yourself >> are you going to pose this time? >> this swaggy walk. >> that was pretty majestic.
>> generous camera angle. >> i would say so. >> i did not get to post this i had to come down. >> i thought it was all about the pose. that is the icing on the cake. >> following that first dunk, with i had to go back to
something different. i went to dominique wilkins from the 88 competition. it was not my strongest dunk. it is a safe one. >> boring. i was important. >> 3-d, you're right. i should have done it too.
trey has to be leading. what do the people think? yeah. >> a 360 dunk. i think you'll be happy to see this third dunk, which i'm sure you'll rolled right now. this is what we call the very rare when she drunk -- wedgie
>> snatching it out of the backboard with the two-hand >> look at the double tee-pop pose. i like the creativity with that. >> it's over. trey, you killed the dunk >> it's not going to get any better this year.
>> i respect creativity. we have never seen a wedgie d unk. >> everyone is always saying all the dunks have been done. not now. >> i think you have given players an idea. i don't think they want the
wedgie in the dunk. >> leigh, what do you have for your third? >> this has to be special and i think it is. a little terrence ross pine. >> didn't you break your ankle? >> you get so excited. >> it did take me a couple of it
starts to be fair. i want to do it with one hand. >> you had the jordan tongue you get extra points for that. >> every time you dunk, leigh, you are surprised. >> the sand was very high yesterday. >> you can do better.
look at him. fourth dunk. >> i have a commanding lead at this point. you will see right here. this is a secret dunk. boom. >> dwight howard. >> oh, yes.
>> look at how high above that rim this is. maybe eight or nine feet above. >> i didn't know we had the budget for stickers. >> i printed that in the business center and put athletic tank on the back. -- athletic tape on the back.
>> you're in the big leagues. i will give you seven. leigh, you need a 10. >> i don't think i will get it. i have two more. you might remember this one was done. gerald green did it. not one candle.
>> i want trey just to get the cupcake. >> now three candles. >> it's not going to hold 38 candles. >> look at this teamwork. >> look at how high that net is. >> here we go. >> i couldn't blow it out.
>> there you go. you got it on the second try. >> so you got the trick candle and lights back up. >> across the board. >> i'm going to try to do the math to see if it is mathematically possible. if trey gets a zero in the last
shot, leigh can win. >> i can feel this next dunk getting very high. it will be a crowdpleaser. >> this is another teamwork it's the beaver! the very slow beaver. >> just keep him going. >> i really did go for that
lunch. >> leigh once again on his back. >> break my ankles. >> interesting. three tens, four tens. >> then you lost me. >> i've got a chance. >> i'll give you a nine. >> not good.
>> a give you 20 blocks afterwards. >> if you -- i will give you $20 >> let's see what you can do. >> i have to produce. >> let's see if i can jump with men on you. >> manny is 6'3". >> jumping over.
>> he is terrified right now. >> secret weapon, brent barry 1996 dunk competition. >> you'll notice he jumps around him. matt moves the other way little bit there. >> to the side.
smart move. >> he wants to give him a 10. >> he's a politician. >> amazing. >> final score, 155-105. >> a blowout. trey kerby. i have spent a year working on these dunks.
it is paid off. >> he was doing yoga. >> we have a trophy for you, trey. zoom in. look at the trophy. >> there it is. you know what this unfortunately means.
leigh won last year, trey won this year. we have to do this again. you have to come back. you guys do a great job. i'll be back next year. >> thank ou so much for joining >> welcome back to "the starters " all-star special.
tomorrow we will have our top 20 nba all-star moments. you'll want to catch that at 1:30 on the network read why don't we do a super all-star team? let's get into it at number 10 on the all-star me team. number 2009?
kevin durant and a bunch of guys playing horse. they gave him a toy trophy. >> that is worse than my trophy. >> inexplicably worse than the dunk champion trophy. >> little known fact about michael jordan -- he hates pans. he tears off -- he hates pants.
he tears off any pants began. who didn't love those in the 1990's? i was so excited when i got my first pair. >> number eight. jason richardson in the 2003 rookie challenge. blanking carlos boozer.
>> oh, no. >> boozer said after the game, he has no class. you don't do that. >> at number seven, the multi talented brent barry. he pulled out the dancing. check those feet. >> i still can't believe he shot
that three-point contest in his pants and sweatshirt. >> i don't know why you are so confused by that. >> i heard you asked him for his warm-up. >> he did not give it to you. >> benny the bull having some fun in front of jay-z, doing the
single ladies dance. >> he wants to smile. he's going to break out in a second. he kind of cracks. >> you want to. >> he is close. number five, allen iverson showing up with his head shaved.
is that allen iverson? i love the players. look at it. players taking photos. i remember being at that weekend, it was a buzz. huge story. >> 2007 in las vegas. it is chuck.
it is sticky. it is the race of a lifetime. >> the nba versus the referee. >> it was competitive and we all kissed. >> i think they should have a reraise. >> at number two, i hate to make fun of these guys, but
they are the worst dunk in history. michael finley, that was bad. >> watch corey maggette here. >> the first one is cool, but that one. >> allan houston bounces the ball off his head before dunking.
>> that's something we would do. >>. davis misses the windmill. i don't mind the attempts there. >> this was a great moment. the east all-star team, everyone dancing except derrick rose. not feeling it. not feeling the vibes.
>> there is a time and place for dancing and it is not at an exhibition game. >> i love this one. >> lebron and dwight going crazy. >> at number one, the man all-star weekend was made for. shaquille o'neal.
it does not get better than this. this is my favorite part, the booty shake. bang, bang, bang. >> you imagine how much derrick rose would hate this? >> it is beautiful. >> we have to show you be
jabberwocky performance, basically in its entirety, because that was good. >> this was legitimately impressive. >> that's what it's funny. he's actually a legit dancer. he's got some moves. >> he has a lot of moves.
>> how long did they rehearsed this? >> did he have them over for a barbecue? does it matter? a lot of questions with that. the all-star mean team at 1:30 on nba tv. it's going to be a lot of fun.
we have to take one more break and when we come back, we will make our predictions for the 2015 all-star game m.v.p. curry, lebron, durant, who do you got? starters" all-star game special. the the game on sunday. we have made a prediction for a
lot of the games on saturday night but look at the sunday madison square garden, east versus the west. tip-off at 7:00 p.m. eastern is when the festivities will get underway on tnt. can't wait for that. unfortunately have had a lot of
injuries come into play. first time in a while we have had four guys, 2010 was the last time we had four injury replacements. john wall, pau gasol, kyle lowry, lebron james, carmelo anthony the starters. a whole lot of replacements in
terms of the starters. the coach of the west as set klay, you are in. >> there are a few injury replacements on the west, but at least it it's the guys in -- it gets the guys in everyone wanted. dirk is going to be here, who
was always a delight. >> this is always a tough question, but do you think one team or another leaning towards winning this game? is one squad more stacked? >> it is always half. does the eastern conference feel slighted?
will they play with a little chip on your shoulder? i think the west is the team, but you never know. >> a lot of people predict we could have a new high-scoring record in terms of total combined points. we could easily get into the one
60's, one 70's. you always hope that it does get competitive. some the all-star moments we will talk about tomorrow are those games that get close, a team comes back and for five minutes it turns into an actual basketball game.
>> anytime you have guys like lebron out there, he is not a guy that says i don't care by loses game. everyone feeds off of him. hopefully it does come down to the wire. >> let's look at m.v.p. you're always trying to find a
storyline to attach yourself to. three of us, if you include the fans, and of course we include the fans, like steph curry. i'm going kevin durant. leigh, you have kyle lowry. why steph? >> i think it is his weekend. it is the weekend of steph
curry. he is going to win the three-point shootout. on sunday, he is going to win m.v.p. i am looking for a storyline. it feels like it is steph's >> it is his second time around. there is no reason to be
nervous. he always kills in madison square garden. 32 points in his last four times. it is the place where he has been comfortable shooting threes. i think he will probably get a
couple of open looks. >> why kyle lowry? i am a massive lowry friend, but i am intrigued. >> mainly, this guy is a bulldog. he never goes out and takes a night off for a playoff. he will work as hard as he can.
he can shoot the three-pointer, set up, rebound, do anything. he is a fantastic player but last year we saw him struggle with the three-point shot early on. i think kyle will really try to get his team off to a good start.
>> it doesn't matter who starts to me, it matters who finishes. a bit of a reason why i am taking kevin durant. first, it is kevin durant. i do think he is a little angry with everyone saying i don't think you should be an all-star. i think he is going to take that
a little personal. we have heard him say, you want my all-star spot, play new one-on-one. he is going to finish. you could see a guy like kevin durant taking over. >> he is a tiny little bit and up as well.
>> that is the other -- tie little bit banged up as well. >> that is the other thing. the coach might say, save my guys, have you out there. >> the entire weekend. >> it is the mecca. the game is going to look fantastic there.
tomorrow, 1:30 p.m. eastern you will see it a couple of times hopefully. the top 20 nba all-star moments. >> great start to your valentine's day. >> you want your valentine to love you? dvr that.
>> nothing more romantic than a stalking basketball on the network. on sunday, people were asking us where the drop was, the podcast. we will do that on sunday. another look at the dwight howard sticker dunk from trey kerby.
>> trey slipped the judge is a few blocks. >> 3-d did not look impressed with that one. gives it a one. >> thanks so much. enjoy the weekend. >> thank you so much for joining us and a member there is the
comes up, there's thumbs-down, and thumbs -- meh. >> a long did it take you to set that up? >> six hours. [captioning made possible by nba
